Claude Skill for Site Architecture

An information architecture expert that plans website structure, including page hierarchy, navigation, URL patterns, and internal linking, so the site is intuitive for users and optimized for search engines. Works for new sites and restructuring projects.

Up and Running in 5 Steps

Clone the repo, open Claude Code, and describe your site type and goals. The skill gathers context, then produces all five deliverables in one session.

01

Open the GitHub Repo

Head to the Infrasity Labs GitHub repo for the Claude Skills collection. All web design skills live in the web-design folder.

Step 1: Open the GitHub repo
02

Download the ZIP File and Open the Folder

Click Code and select Download ZIP. Unzip the archive and open the folder so you can see the individual skill directories inside.

Step 2: Download the ZIP and open the folder
03

Navigate to the Skill and Compress It

Open the web-design directory, find the skill you want to install, and compress that specific folder into a ZIP file.

Step 3: Navigate to skill folder and compress it
04

Open Claude and Go to Customize, then Skills

Launch Claude on desktop or web, click your profile, go to Customize Claude, then open the Skills tab.

Step 4: Open Claude Skills settings
05

Add the Skill from Your Directory

Click Add Skill, select the ZIP you just created, and confirm. The skill is now active and ready to use in any Claude conversation.

Step 5: Add the skill from your directory
06

Run the Skill

Open a new Claude conversation, describe what you need — paste a URL to audit, describe a UI to design, or ask it to review your files — and the skill runs immediately.

Step 6: Run the site-architecture skill in Claude

Five deliverables

Everything you need to hand off to development, in one session

01

Page Hierarchy (ASCII Tree)

Full site structure with every page and its URL path, formatted as an ASCII tree. Uses the 3-click rule to validate depth: any important page more than 3 clicks from the homepage is flagged for restructuring.

02

Visual Sitemap (Mermaid)

A Mermaid graph TD diagram showing page relationships and navigation zones (header nav, footer nav, sidebar). Includes subgraph annotations for different navigation contexts.

03

URL Map Table

Every page as a table row: page name, URL, parent, nav location, and priority. Flags common URL mistakes — dates in slugs, IDs instead of slugs, inconsistent patterns, over-nesting.

04

Navigation Spec

Header nav items in priority order (4-7 items max, CTA rightmost), footer sections and links grouped into Product/Resources/Company/Legal columns, sidebar nav if applicable, and breadcrumb implementation notes.

05

Internal Linking Plan

Hub pages and their spokes, cross-section link opportunities (feature pages to case studies, blog to product), orphan page audit for restructuring projects, and recommended internal links per key page.

What the Site Architecture skill actually is?

An IA expert, not a visual tool

The site-architecture skill is an information architecture expert that plans website structure so the site is intuitive for users and optimized for search engines. It handles page hierarchy, navigation design, URL structure, and internal linking for new sites and restructuring projects.

Before planning, it checks for product marketing context in .agents/product-marketing.md or .claude/product-marketing.md. If that file exists, it uses that context and only asks for information not already covered. Then it gathers business context, current state, site type, and content inventory before producing any deliverables.

Output covers five deliverables: an ASCII page hierarchy tree, a Mermaid visual sitemap with navigation zone annotations, a URL map table, a navigation specification, and an internal linking plan with hub-and-spoke architecture. All five are ready to hand off to a developer.

When it Triggers?

Triggers on: 'sitemap', 'site map', 'visual sitemap', 'site structure', 'page hierarchy', 'information architecture', 'IA', 'navigation design', 'URL structure', 'breadcrumbs', 'internal linking strategy', 'website planning', 'what pages do I need', 'how should I organize my site', or 'site navigation'.

This skill is for page hierarchy and navigation planning — not XML sitemaps for search engines (that's the seo-audit skill) and not structured data schema (that's the schema skill). The distinction: site-architecture answers 'what pages exist and how do they connect', while seo-audit checks whether those pages are correctly crawled and indexed.

Six site types, six starting points

The skill adapts its hierarchy and URL recommendations to the site type

SaaS marketing (2-3 levels): Home, Features, Pricing, Blog, Docs. URL pattern: /features/name, /blog/slug. 4-7 header nav items with a 'Get Started' or 'Start Free Trial' CTA rightmost.

Content/blog (2-3 levels): Home, Blog, Categories, About. URL pattern: /blog/slug, /category/slug. Categories in sidebar nav rather than header. Related posts section mandatory on every article.

E-commerce (3-4 levels): Home, Categories, Products, Cart. URL pattern: /category/subcategory/product. Breadcrumbs essential at L3+. Filter params handled with canonical tags, not new URLs.

Documentation (3-4 levels): Home, Guides, API Reference. URL pattern: /docs/section/page. Sidebar nav for section navigation. Next/Previous links on every doc page. Search as a first-class nav element.

Hybrid SaaS + content (3-4 levels): Home, Product, Blog, Resources, Docs. URL pattern: /product/feature, /blog/slug. Separate nav zones for marketing and content. Resources section bridges product and blog.

Small business (1-2 levels): Home, Services, About, Contact. URL pattern: /services/name. Flat structure. Single-level header nav. NAP (name, address, phone) on every page for local SEO.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about installing and running these Claude Skills.

Site-architecture answers 'what pages should exist and how do they connect.' Seo-audit answers 'are your existing pages correctly crawled, indexed, and optimized.' Run site-architecture first when planning a new site or restructuring. Run seo-audit on the existing site to identify technical issues. They complement each other — they don't overlap.
Any important page should be reachable within 3 clicks from the homepage. It isn't absolute, but if a critical page (pricing, key feature, contact) is buried 4+ levels deep, that's a flag for restructuring. The skill validates depth in the ASCII tree and flags violations.
Five: (1) ASCII page hierarchy tree with URLs; (2) Mermaid visual sitemap with nav zone subgraphs; (3) URL map table showing page, URL, parent, nav location, and priority; (4) navigation spec covering header items, footer sections, sidebar if applicable, and breadcrumb notes; (5) internal linking plan with hub-and-spoke architecture and orphan page audit.
Yes. For restructuring projects, it asks what's broken (high bounce, poor SEO, users can't find things), which existing URLs must be preserved for redirects, and what the most important pages are by traffic or business value. It then plans the new structure with a redirect map for URL changes.
Six common patterns: dates in blog URLs (/blog/2024/01/15/ adds no value), over-nesting (more than 3 levels for non-docs sites), changing URLs without redirects, IDs instead of slugs (/product/12345), query parameters for content (/blog?id=123), and inconsistent patterns mixing /features/ and /product/ for the same type of content.
Hub pages are comprehensive overviews targeting broad keywords. Spoke pages are focused on narrower subtopics, each linking back to the hub. The hub links to all spokes. Spokes link to each other where relevant. For content-heavy sites, this structure channels link equity to the hub and helps AI systems understand topical depth.
