Claude Skill for Frontend Design

Acts as a design lead who gives every product a visual identity that could not be mistaken for anyone else's. Produces deliberate palette, typography, and layout choices specific to the brief, with one justified aesthetic risk per engagement.

Up and Running in 5 Steps

Clone the repo, open Claude Code, and describe what you want to design. The skill handles direction, data-backed recommendations, and handoff to implementation.

01

Open the GitHub Repo

Head to the Infrasity Labs GitHub repo for the Claude Skills collection. All web design skills live in the web-design folder.

Step 1: Open the GitHub repo
02

Download the ZIP File and Open the Folder

Click Code and select Download ZIP. Unzip the archive and open the folder so you can see the individual skill directories inside.

Step 2: Download the ZIP and open the folder
03

Navigate to the Skill and Compress It

Open the web-design directory, find the skill you want to install, and compress that specific folder into a ZIP file.

Step 3: Navigate to skill folder and compress it
04

Open Claude and Go to Customize, then Skills

Launch Claude on desktop or web, click your profile, go to Customize Claude, then open the Skills tab.

Step 4: Open Claude Skills settings
05

Add the Skill from Your Directory

Click Add Skill, select the ZIP you just created, and confirm. The skill is now active and ready to use in any Claude conversation.

Step 5: Add the skill from your directory
06

Run the Skill

Open a new Claude conversation, describe what you need — paste a URL to audit, describe a UI to design, or ask it to review your files — and the skill runs immediately.

Step 6: Run the frontend-design skill in Claude

How it works

Two passes: brainstorm, then self-critique before a single line of code

01

Design Intelligence Query

Runs ui-ux-pro-max to get a data-backed starting point: style, color palette, typography, and anti-patterns to avoid, based on your product type and audience. Seeds the token system from evidence, not defaults.

02

Brand Context Injection

If a brand already exists, reads it via the brand skill before designing. Injects brand colors, typefaces, and visual identity standards so the direction stays coherent with existing assets.

03

Brainstorm Pass

Creates a compact token system: 4-6 named hex values, typefaces for 2+ roles, a layout concept in prose and ASCII wireframes, and the signature element — the single thing this page will be remembered by.

04

Self-Critique & Revision

Reviews the plan against the brief before writing any code. Flags anything that reads like the AI-generated default (warm cream serif, near-black acid-green, broadsheet hairlines) and revises with explicit justification.

05

Implementation & Handoff

Writes code following the approved plan exactly. Hands component setup off to the ui-styling skill (shadcn/ui + Tailwind) once the design direction is confirmed.

What the Frontend Design skill actually is?

A design lead persona, not a code generator

The frontend-design skill approaches every brief as the design lead at a small studio known for giving every client a visual identity that could not be mistaken for anyone else's. It makes deliberate, opinionated choices about palette, typography, and layout that are specific to the brief, and takes one real aesthetic risk it can justify.

It works in two passes. First, it brainstorms a compact token system with color (4-6 named hex values), type (characterful display + complementary body face), layout (prose descriptions + ASCII wireframes), and a signature element. Then it reviews that plan against the brief before building, flagging anything that reads as a generic default and revising with explicit justification.

The skill is aware of the three AI-design defaults it must actively avoid: the warm cream serif look, the near-black acid-green accent, and the broadsheet hairline grid. If the brief specifies one of these, it follows. If not, it treats them as dead options and finds something grounded in the product's own world.

When it Triggers?

Triggers when you describe what you want to design: 'design my landing page', 'what should my UI look like', 'help me with visual direction', 'pick a color palette for', 'design a dashboard for', 'what typography should I use', or any prompt asking for aesthetic direction before implementation.

If a brief doesn't pin down what the product is, the skill pins it itself before designing — it names one concrete subject, its audience, and the page's single job. It reads memory for any context about what you're building or designs made before, using those as hints rather than starting from scratch.

What it produces

A token system, a layout plan, and implementation-ready direction

01

Token system

4-6 named hex colors with clear roles, type scale with 2+ typefaces (display and body), spacing scale, and border-radius decisions, all derived from the brief's subject matter rather than defaults.

02

Layout concept

ASCII wireframes comparing 2-3 layout directions, with prose descriptions of each. The hero is treated as a thesis — it opens with the most characteristic thing in the subject's world, not a gradient tagline.

03

Signature element

The single memorable design detail that embodies the brief: a specific animation, a typographic treatment, an interaction, or a structural device. Everything else is quiet and disciplined around this one thing.

04

Restraint critique

Runs Chanel's rule before finishing: removes one accessory from the design that doesn't serve the brief. Flags CSS specificity conflicts, motion excess, and copy that reads as AI-generated rather than product-specific.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about installing and running these Claude Skills.

The skill enforces a two-pass process: it brainstorms a token system and critiques it against the brief before writing any code. It actively avoids the three AI design defaults, queries ui-ux-pro-max for data-backed palette and typography recommendations, and produces one justified aesthetic risk per engagement — not a safe, generic output.
Pass one: brainstorm a compact token system (color, type, layout, signature). Pass two: review that plan against the brief, flag anything that reads like a default for any similar brief, revise it, and only then write code. The critique pass is where distinctive direction gets created.
It explicitly identifies the three 2024-2025 AI design defaults — warm cream serif, near-black acid-green accent, broadsheet hairline grid — and avoids them unless the brief specifies one. It also avoids numbered markers (01/02/03) unless the content is actually a sequence, and critiques motion excess that makes a design feel generated rather than crafted.
Yes, after the design plan is approved. It follows the plan exactly, deriving every color and type decision from the token system. For component setup with shadcn/ui and Tailwind, it hands off to the ui-styling skill. It watches for CSS specificity conflicts that cancel each other out during implementation.
The single unique element the page will be remembered by that embodies the brief in an appropriate way. It could be a specific animation, a typographic treatment, an interaction moment, or a structural device. The skill spends its boldness in one place and keeps everything else quiet and disciplined around it.
Yes. If a brand exists, it injects brand context first via the brand skill — brand colors, typefaces, visual identity standards — before designing. If the brief already specifies a visual direction, it validates the data-backed recommendations against that direction rather than replacing it.
