Blog Discourse: what people are actually saying right now

Research what practitioners and customers are actually saying about a topic in the last 30 days across Reddit, X, YouTube, Hacker News, and more, API-free, distilled into a structured brief.

What the Blog Discourse skill actually is?

The recency and engagement lens that authority research lacks

Blog Discourse researches what people are actually saying about a topic in the last 30 days across Reddit, X / Twitter, YouTube, Hacker News, dev.to, Medium, and other public platforms. It is the recency and engagement lens that authority-first research lacks.

It is API-free. Instead of paid social APIs it uses WebSearch with platform-targeted site operators plus recency filters, composing four to eight searches per topic. It produces `DISCOURSE.md`, a structured brief at the project root, plus JSON output the writer can consume.

It complements rather than replaces authority research: it pairs with the researcher agent and feeds into blog-brief, blog-write, or blog-strategy via `--feed-into`. It is recency-first, so it matters for news analysis, trend pieces, and state-of-the-field posts, but an evergreen explainer does not need it.

When it Triggers?

The skill responds to phrases like "what are people saying about", "voice of customer", "social listening", "30-day research", or "practitioner discourse". It opens with a mandatory pre-flight that checks the topic against four keyword-trap classes, and if one matches it either reframes or stops to ask a clarifying question before spending any searches.

Use it when a post benefits from real, current opinion. With `--feed-into write`, `--feed-into brief`, or `--feed-into strategy` it runs the brief and then hands DISCOURSE.md straight to the chosen downstream command. The window defaults to 30 days and widens to 90 with `--days 90`.

What it delivers

Disciplined, injection-safe discourse research in one brief

01

Platform-targeted, API-free search

Runs four to eight WebSearch queries using site operators across Reddit, Hacker News, X, YouTube, dev.to, Medium, GitHub, and more, with before and after recency filters.

02

Topic decomposition

Breaks named-entity topics into primary entity, counter-perspective, practitioner discourse, tangential entities, and a time anchor, and prints the search plan in the brief.

03

Untrusted-data safety contract

Scans every snippet for prompt-injection patterns, prefixes suspicious ones, never follows embedded directives, and relies on script-level schema validation as defense in depth.

04

Clustered synthesis brief

Emits a DISCOURSE.md that separates what is new, cross-platform consensus, and niche single-source themes, following the synthesis contract with inline citations and no invented titles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about installing and running these Claude Skills.

Authority-first research focuses on stats and credible sources. Blog Discourse is the recency and engagement lens: it asks what practitioners and customers are actually saying about a topic in the last 30 days. It complements the researcher agent rather than replacing it.
No. It is API-free and uses WebSearch with platform-targeted site operators and recency filters across Reddit, X, YouTube, Hacker News, dev.to, Medium, and similar platforms, rather than paid social APIs.
Before any search it checks the topic against four keyword-trap classes: demographic shopping, numeric trap, overly-literal phrase, and generic single-noun. If one matches it either reframes the query or stops to ask a clarifying question, so it never wastes searches on a trap topic.
Every snippet is treated as untrusted data. The skill scans for injection patterns, prefixes suspicious snippets, and never follows embedded directives. Script-level schema validation adds a second layer of defense.
A DISCOURSE.md brief at the project root, plus consumable JSON. The brief separates what is new in the window, consensus across platforms, niche single-source themes, practitioner specifics, and a cross-platform source table, with inline citations.
Yes. With --feed-into write, brief, or strategy it runs the discourse brief and then invokes the downstream command with DISCOURSE.md auto-loaded as a research input, alongside the researcher agent's authority sources.
