Verifies statistics, claims, and source attributions in blog posts by fetching cited URLs and checking whether the claimed data actually appears, scoring match confidence and flagging uncited claims.

What the Blog Factcheck skill actually is?

Source verification for every number in a post

Blog Factcheck verifies the statistics, claims, and source attributions in a blog post. It scans the full text for every claim containing a number, percentage, dollar amount, or named source, then builds a claims list capturing the claim text, value, attribution, cited URL, and location.

For each claim that carries a URL, it fetches the source page, searches for the specific value, checks the surrounding context, and assigns a confidence score: 1.0 for an exact match, 0.7 to 0.9 for a paraphrase, 0.3 to 0.6 when the page covers the topic but the stat is not visible, and 0.0 when the data is absent. Claims without a URL are flagged UNVERIFIED with a suggested search query.

It is a pure Claude pipeline with no external NLP dependencies. The output is a verification report: a full claims table with scores and statuses, summary counts, and recommended actions for claims that need sources or replacement data.

When it Triggers?

Invoke it with phrases like "fact check", "verify statistics", "check sources", "validate claims", "factcheck", or "source verification", passing the path to a post. Standalone usage is /blog factcheck path/to/post.md.

It can also be called from blog-analyze as an optional deep-verification step, in which case only claims scoring below 0.7 are flagged in the analysis report. Claims are processed sequentially to avoid rate-limiting source sites, and no more than 10 URLs run per pass with any remainder listed as skipped.
