What the SEO Images skill actually is?

A comprehensive image SEO and SERP visibility auditor

The seo-images skill audits every image on a page across six optimization areas: alt text quality, file size compliance, modern format adoption, responsive implementation, lazy loading strategy, and CLS prevention. It also cross-references on-page images with Google Images rankings via DataForSEO to identify competitor optimization patterns.

The skill classifies lazy-loading methods specifically: native HTML5, Perfmatters, EWWW, generic JavaScript, or none. This distinction matters because JavaScript-driven lazy loading differs from native loading='lazy' in how Googlebot processes the image. A critical rule is enforced: never lazy-load above-fold hero images as it hurts LCP. Use fetchpriority='high' on LCP images instead.

The recommended picture pattern using progressive enhancement (AVIF → WebP → JPEG fallback) is checked and enforced. For AI-generated product images, the skill flags the requirement to inject IPTC DigitalSourceType metadata per Google Merchant Center policies.
