Pricing: Design Plans That Capture Value and Drive Growth

A Claude Code skill that designs SaaS pricing and packaging which captures value, drives growth, and aligns with customer willingness to pay.

VIEW ON GITHUBHOW IT WORKS

What the Pricing skill actually is

An expert in SaaS pricing and monetization, not a price calculator.

When triggered, Claude takes on the role of an expert in SaaS pricing and monetization strategy whose job is to design pricing that captures value, drives growth, and aligns with customer willingness to pay.

It works across the three pricing axes: packaging (what's included per tier), the pricing metric (what you charge for), and the price point (how much), all anchored in value-based rather than cost-based thinking.

It also covers the harder calls: choosing a value metric, structuring tiers, running willingness-to-pay research, deciding when and how to raise prices, and building a pricing page that converts.

When it triggers

The skill activates when you mention pricing, tiers, freemium, free trials, packaging, a price increase, value metric, Van Westendorp, willingness to pay, monetization, or questions like 'how much should I charge' and 'should I offer a free plan'.

It gathers business context, value and competition, current performance, and goals, reading product marketing context first so it can skip what you have already answered and focus on the pricing decision at hand.

Pricing fundamentals

The structure behind pricing that captures value.

01

Value-based pricing

Price between the next best alternative, which is the floor, and the customer's perceived value, which is the ceiling. Cost to serve is only a baseline, not the basis.

02

The right value metric

Charge for something that scales with the value customers receive, is easy to understand, and is hard to game, whether per seat, per usage, per transaction, or flat.

03

Good-better-best tiers

An entry tier with core features, a recommended anchor tier with full features, and a premium tier at 2 to 3x the recommended price.

04

Willingness-to-pay research

Van Westendorp to find the acceptable price range and MaxDiff to learn which features customers value most for packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that needs a human to answer? No problem.

It works across all three pricing axes: packaging (what's included at each tier), the pricing metric (what you charge for), and the price point (the actual dollar amounts), so you end up with a coherent structure rather than guessed numbers.
The value metric is what you charge for, and a good one scales with the value the customer receives. The test is simple: as a customer uses more of the metric, do they get more value? If yes it is a good metric, if no your price doesn't align with value. Common metrics include per seat, per usage, per transaction, and flat fee.
Around a good-better-best framework: a Good entry tier with core features at a low price, a Better recommended tier with full features as the anchor, and a Best premium tier with everything at roughly 2 to 3x the Better price. Tiers are differentiated by feature gating, usage limits, support level, or access.
It guides you through the Van Westendorp method, which uses four questions to identify the acceptable price range, and MaxDiff analysis, which reveals which features customers value most so you can package tiers accordingly.
It looks for market signals like competitors raising prices and prospects not flinching, business signals like very high conversion and very low churn, and product signals like significant value added since the last change. Then it helps pick a strategy: grandfather existing customers, delay the increase, tie it to new value, or restructure plans.
Yes. It covers above-the-fold essentials like a clear comparison table, a highlighted recommended tier, and a monthly-annual toggle, plus pricing psychology such as anchoring, the decoy effect, and charm versus round pricing.
